CHOOSING A-LEVEL COMBINATION BASING ON THE NEW LOWER SECONDARY CURRICULUM (NLSC)

Choosing a combination at A-Level that matches one's career aspirations can prove to be not an easy task. With the need to base on the New Lower Secondary Curriculum (NLSC) Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results, Students need to be clearly guided on Subject Choices in A-Level

While releasing 2024 UCE (NLSC) results on Tuesday, 11th February, 2025, the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet K. Museveni guided on Subject Choices in A-Level (Senior 5 & 6) as follows:

  • Students who score A or B in core subjects are more likely to qualify for science or arts combinations at A-Level;
  • Those with C or D may still proceed to A-level but with limited subject options;
  • Students with mostly D or E grades may be advised to consider vocational education or technical training instead of A-Level.

Following her guidance, it can be recommended that learners choose only those subjects from which they scored grades A or B to form part of their subject combinations at A-Level. Other than that, they may do so with guidance from trained and qualified educationists.

Guidance on how to choose a combination at A-Level basing on admission requirements and criteria by higher institutions of learning can be viewed here.
